Drop in fatal work accidents in January-June 2017

During the first half of 2017 there was a 28% decrease in fatal work accidents in all aspects of the economy in comparison with the previous year, according to a report by the Occupational Health and Safety Authority in the Labor and Social Affairs Ministry.

During the months of January-June 2017, 21 workers were killed in 20 work accidents, as opposed to 29 in the comparative period last year.

The positive results are interpreted by the ministry as being due to the transfer of the Occupational Health and Safety Authority to the Labor Ministry as well as due to a number of steps taken by Minister Haim Katz as part of the determined fight against negligence in the workplace and specifically in building sites.
