Former Justice Minister Daniel Friedmann has attacked the Supreme Court's system of choosing its president on the basis of seniority.

Addressing a special meeting of the Knesset's Constitution, Law and Justice Committee on the subject, Professor Friedman said, "In order to strengthen the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court should apply the rules that apply to all the other institutions in the country." Referring to the seniority system, he said, "Basically this is contrary to the laws of the state. In the end, like the temporary appointments to the Supreme Court, here too, if the necessary steps are taken, change will take place here too."
