Rabbi Chaim Druckman, the former head of the National conversion establishment, says that he favors a national conversion and is against private conversions. Rabbi Druckman conceded that town rabbis should also be allowed to convert but in conjunction with the national conversion authorities.
Rabbi Druckman said that the main conversions today are of Russian Jews descended from gentiles who had married Jews and suffered anti-Semitism together with Jews and now those descendants of Jews who suffered a brutal suppression of their religion wish to become Jews and they should be encouraged and welcomed.
