The inspection unit of the Civil Administration for Judea and Samaria has confiscated a Palestinian Authority truck that was caught while transporting waste to a pirate site in Shukba, near Beit Aryeh-Ofarim. The site is a serious environmental hazard and the burning of waste is done in order to separate copper found in electrical appliances.
In light of intensive enforcement activity alongside dialogue with the PA population, some two million PA residents are dumping waste at regulated sites, mainly in light of the construction of two internationally-funded waste disposal sites: Zahrat Al-Finjan in Samaria and the Al-Miniya site in Judea. At the same time, about 140 pirate waste sites have been closed and rehabilitated.
