Former Supreme Court Chief Justice Dorit Beinish responded to the attempts by Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked to cancel the seniority method of appointing the Chief Justice, according to which the oldest judge receives the appointment on the retirement of the previous chief justice.
"Creating a connection between politicians and judges is placing gunpowder under the foundations of the method. If a judge is expecting some promotion it could harm his independence of thought."
