Prime minister Netanyahu met with Russian and American army veterans living in Israel in honor of VE day and introduced them to the US Joint Chief of Staff, Joseph Dunford, who is visiting with his Israeli counterpart Gadi Eizenkot.
Netanyahu heard the veterans stories and the battles they participated in and remarked that "you saved the Jewish people and humanity. Humanity might have survived but the Jewish nation would not have survived.
"This is indeed a tremendous and historic contribution. I am proud of you and we are all proud of you. I see the war medals, you deserve them. I know that every medal cost a lot of blood and sacrifice. I am a great admirer of you and the people owe you a great debt of gratitude."
