Former Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon, who is taking part in the Jerusalem Post conference in New York, addressed the Arab-Israeli conflict and President Donald Trump's attempts to renew peace talks.
"The occupation did not start in 1967, it started in 1948. In other words, [the conflict] is about the existence of the State of Israel itself...There is no chance of ending the conflict. According to Israeli interests, in my opinion, on the one hand, we must understand that there is no chance of final reconciliation; on the other hand, we do not want to control them. Between them is the skeleton on which there is a lot to work on," said Ya’alon.
"I hope that Trump will be effective on this issue, but without hallucinations, and of course not to blame Israel but to leave Mahmoud Abbas responsible for any future failure," he added.
