The alertness of the security officer at the Israeli embassy in Madrid led to the capture of suspects near a Memorial Day event in the city's synagogue on Sunday.
The security officer of the embassy and his team stopped four passers-by who were carrying several cartons as they crossed the alley leading to the synagogue and walked toward a neighbor's house. A search of the cartons revealed many weapons, including pistols, knives and live ammunition, which were hidden between clothes which the four said they intended to leave in a nearby storeroom. A later investigation revealed that this was apparently a criminal incident and not an attempted terrorist attack.
