A search committee headed by Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit to fill the position of deputy attorney general decided on Monday to recommend attorney Amit Merari for the position.

Over the years, Merari has served in various positions in the Ministry of Justice, including: attorney at the State Attorney's Office, both in the Department of International Affairs and in the Criminal Department, aide to then-attorney general Elyakim Rubinstein, and a Referent in the Counseling and Legislation Department. Merari has gained experience in the criminal field abroad, serving as a legal assistant in the United States prosecution system, including in the federal system in the field of organized crime and money laundering.
