Former prime minister and defense minister Ehud Barak said, Sunday that Friday's attack by the United States on a Syrian airbase in response to a chemical-weapons attack on a Syrian town was "a surprising move, an admirable achievement" that has borne US President Donald Trump "a lot of fruit. Along with the assessment, this is apparently a symbolic act intended to signal to others the red line used in chemical weapons."

Interviewed on Channel 10 Television, Barak said said that Israel should not intervene significantly in what is happening in Syria, explaining, "Whoever tries to help will find himself with damage and will be marked as a collaborator ... No other overt action will be wise, Israel must act responsibly and and in a calculated fashion."
