Report: Plea bargain offered in beating of soldier

Attorney General Avihai Mandelblit has informed the Supreme Court that a settlement has been proposed to the policeman who was documented hitting Ethiopian-Israeli soldier Damas Pikda about two years ago in an incident which led to the largest protest in the Ethiopian community, according to Yediot Ahronot.

Under the arrangement , the officer was offered a chance to admit the draft indictment and receive an agreed-upon punishment without conviction under a conditional arrangement, which generally carries a fine and a warning. The attorney general made it clear in his statement to the court that the officer must accept the offer by April 9 to avoid indictment and trial. An attorney for Pikda protested the proposal and said he would weigh future steps.
