A warning of a tsunami was canceled, early Sunday afternoon, hours after an earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale hit southern Chile.
The epicenter was near the southern tip of Chiloé Island, about 25 miles/40km southwest of Puerto Quellón city, at a depth of 20 miles/33km. There were no immediate reports of casualties but damage was reported.
