Zionist Union chairman Yitzhak Herzog eulogized Shimon Peres, who died at the age of 93.

"Shimon Peres was one of the greatest leaders of the State of Israel. The man who from his youth and until his final days worked for the State of Israel, left us today at the age of 93.

“He was a teacher, a friend and a great leader in Israel's history who will be remembered forever. He started as an assistant and confidant of the first Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion and continued until he became a leader in the world, president, prime minister, foreign minister, defense minister and Labor Party leader, a man whose hand was in all that grew here. A man of great deeds who shaped the face of Israel throughout its existence.

“His contribution to Israel's security and deterrence, his resolute struggle against terrorism and the relentless pursuit of peace was a contribution that no words can describe. I knew Shimon Peres and his family since I was a child, as an adult I got to be his assistant, adviser and friend. Many more words will be spoken about Shimon, but now the sadness is too big.”
