The Hebrew University and University of Maryland, Baltimore signed an agreement, Sunday, to extend a successful student exchange program by five years and to explore opportunities for other cooperative activities, such as joint research and training, exchange of scholars for seminars and conferences and increased exchange of students and faculty for research, teaching and study.

One area of possible collaboration is in military medicine. In 2013 the Hebrew University established the national Institute for Research in Military Medicine (IRMM) in cooperation with the Israel Defense Forces. University President Menachem Ben-Sasson cited UMB as "a world leader in the field of trauma and operational medicine".
