More than 5,000 eggs with forged inspection stamps were seized by the Poultry Council at stands operated by a single suspect in Jerusalem's Mahane Yehuda open-air market.
The Agriculture Ministry stressed that the eggs had not been under veterinary supervision and were apparently smuggled from the Palestinian Authority. The Poultry Council stressed, "Eggs that are not inspected for hygiene do not just endanger the public health, their pirate marketing causes economic damage to those who market inspected eggs."
