France has delivered a second Mistral-class helicopter carrier to Egypt as part of a $1billion deal signed last year, according to the IsraelDefense website. Citing a report by Euro News, Israel Defense says each carrier is capable of carrying 16 Russian Ka-52 helicopters.
The ship could be used for amphibious activities while carrying infantry soldiers and combat vehicles, and will serve as a command center for the Egyptian fleet. The bottom line: if the Egyptians were inclined to execute a ground operation in a foreign country, these vessels will allow it to do so.
