Druze leader Yusef Assad Shahin passed away, Monday, at the age of 90. He was a leader in the link between the Druze community and the state of Israel, fighting alongside the young Israel Defense Forces. He is survived by children and grandchildren, many of whom fought in the IDF and rose to command and officer positions.

Ayal Assad of the Jewish Home's Druze Forum remembered Shahin for helping Jews settle the Galilee. Assad said Shahin fought side-by-side with Moshe Dayan with whom he formed a strong friendship.
