Rector Ezra Kahalani of the Herzog Academic College called, Thursday, on the education ministry "to initiate 4-year track for a [combined] undergraduate and master's degree and a teaching certificate for teaching subjects in which students are lacking, especially English, math, science and language. It also should allow students in the fourth year of this track to engage in the teaching profession."

Kahalani's comments accompanied the results of a poll by the college and Tak Strategies in which 37% of respondents believe that there are not enough teachers in the education system and 42% believe that there is a shortage of teachers in English, math and science. Only 13% were satisfied with the education system in Israel. More than half of the respondents said that the level of teaching is mediocre and must undergo improvement. 10% said that in recent years the level of teaching is declining.
