Elvira Savino of the Forza Italia party has proposed legislation which would punish parents, who provide “inadequate” nourishment to their children, with up to four years of prison time.
In her words, the law aims to “stigmatise the reckless and dangerous eating behaviour imposed by parents” who pursue a vegan diet, “to the detriment of minors”.
Another member of Parliament wrote: “There is no objection if the person making this choice [of veganism] is an informed adult. A problem arises when children are involved.”
