Member of Knesset Merav Michaeli (Zionist Union) said, Monday, that she opposed Israel's unilateral pullout from Gaza and four Jewish communities in northern Samaria in 2005. Speaking at the Katif Conference to mark the 11 years that have passed, the chairwoman of the Zionist Union's Knesset faction she said Israel should not have pulled out without an agreement that would guarantee quiet and stability.

Michaeli was a journalist and television personality at the time of the Disengagement. She said it saved Israeli lives but noted that there are still problems to solve regarding Gaza. She cited the terrorist rockets and what she called "the serious humanitarian crisis that could explode on us."
