Egyptian Prime Minister Sharif Ismail said, Thursday, that his country has not received a request for asylum from exiled Turkish cleric Fetullah Gülen. He said if such a request is received, the ministry will judge it on its merits.
Gülen is currently in the United States. Earlier, Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ said his country had received intelligence that Gülen might flee to another country ahead of efforts to extradite him to Turkey in connection with the recent failed coup there. Bozdağ mentioned Egypt as a country to which Gülen might go.
