The Israel Defense Forces have changed regulations to allow soldiers up to the rank of major to participate in demonstrations, protests, rallies and marches if these activities do not concern IDF activities or political affairs, including party matters. The regulations restrict the soldiers to off duty hours and they must not be in uniform or identifiable as soldiers.
The IDF says the change reflects the proper balance between the military framework and the rights of off-duty soldiers to demonstrate social involvement and responsibility.
