Police in the Crown Heights section of New York are investigating the cutting of the recently-erected Eruv, marking the boundaries of where Jews can go without halakhic (Jewish legal) restrictions on the Sabbath and holidays.
Chabad Online reports that a number of neighborhood rabbis had expressed their opposition to the Eruv. Local members of the Chabad hasidic movement said the last Lubavitcher Rebbe was opposed in principle but they objected to its cutting.
