Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon is examining the possibility of lowering taxes for those who earn less than 12,000 shekels (about $3,100) a month, according to Channel 2 Television. The treasurer is also considering lowering the corporate tax.

The moves go against the warnings of officials in the ministry's budget division, who say massive cuts will be needed to deal with a 15-billion-shekel ($3.9 billion) shortfall in revenue.
