Juba, South Sudan: A spokesman for Machar's military faction announced that gun battles across the capital have killed more than 115 people.
Gunfire erupted outside the presidential palace at around 4:20pm on Friday, while President Salva Kiir was in a meeting to discuss a previous clash in which five government soldiers were killed the day before.
The fighting began on the eve of South Sudan's fifth Independence Day.
