The Security-Diplomatic Cabinet adopted, Sunday, the recommendations of a team led by Dr. Yosef Ciechanover on implementation of the Second Tuerkel Commission study of Israeli investigation mechanisms regarding war-related complaints under international law. A number of those recommendations have already been implemented.
The Tuerkel Commission found that Israel's blockade of Gaza and interception of flotillas intended to break that blockade were found to be in accordance with international law. Nobel Peace Prize laureate David Trimble, who served as an observer on the commission, said the Israeli justice system meets the standards of the best countries in the world. A report by military experts after the Defensive Edge counterterror campaign in Gaza in 2014 put Israel in line with, if not above the highest international norms. Following Sunday's decision, the cabinet said the recommendations emphasize, again, Israel's commitment to democracy and the rule of law.
