Interior Minister Aryeh Deri, today approved an extension to the work permits of some 3,000 foreign construction workers who have been residing in Israel for more than five years.

The minister's office said that the workers, most of whom are from China, came to work in the construction sector in Israel. Their permits recently expired. To prevent the delay of construction in the country, until new workers arrive, the minister decided to extend their permits for another year.

"The issue of Israeli construction is the most significant, and today's decision is intended to further strengthen the speed of construction around the country," he said.
