The Singapore Media Development Authority has instructed a production of Les Miserables to remove a planned scene in which two male actors kiss, Associated Press reports.
The musical initially received a "General" rating, which was based on a version without the kiss. "Under our classification code, such a scene would fall under an 'Advisory' rating," the MDA stated. "The applicant decided to remove the scene so as to keep the 'General' rating for the rest of its run. MDA will take action against this breach of licensing conditions."
Neither the original play, nor the novel it is based on, include any scenes of homosexuality.
