Police have detained a former senior official in the Rishon Leziyon municipality, who now serves as a member of the city council and is involved with the Chief Rabbinate exams.
He is undergoing questioning over accusations of bribery and fraud. Other suspects have also been questioned over the past week.
The suspects are believed to have been involved in a scam to sell Rabbinate certifications to candidates who do not meet the necessary qualifications.
