A court in Maldives has sentenced the former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb to ten years in prison for terrorism and weapons offenses, Associated Press reports.
President Yameen Abdul Gayoom has been cracking down on alleged terrorism since he was elected in 2013. Adeeb is the fourth prominent politician jailed during Gayoom's term. The others are a former president, a former defense minister and the head of a political party. The first, President Mohamed Nasheed, received asylum in the UK.
Maldives is located in the Indian Ocean.
