A bill proposed by MK Bezalel Smotrich (Jewish Home) with regards to a declaration of assets by senior officials in the public service unanimously passed its first reading on Monday evening.

The bill seeks to require senior public service officials, including judges, police officers and members of local authorities to submit a financial statement.

"At a time of serious disputes in the Israeli Knesset, I am pleased over the broad mobilization of the coalition and the opposition to pass this important law," said Smotrich. "The rule of law, honesty, and integrity are important values to us all. This law is another step in restoring public confidence in the public service."
