In light of the violent event in Tel Aviv, during which a Bedouin man was beaten by a border policeman, Meretz and Jewish Home youths sent a harsh letter to Police Commissioner Roni Alsheich, in protest against police brutality.
“The wrong and dangerous phenomenon of police brutality has been hovering through the State of Israel for a long time already,” they wrote. “Against members of the haredi community, settlers, Arabs and minorities… many police officers choose to take advantage of their power and use it inappropriately and even without discernment.”
