MKs Yael German, Merav Michaeli and Michal Rozin, who head the gay rights lobby in the Knesset, responded on Sunday to Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon’s announcement that the government will recognize gay and lesbian partners of fallen soldiers as bereaved families.

“We welcome Ya'alon’s announcement, but the gay community deserves equal rights enshrined in the law that will stand the test of time and changes in the personal identity of the minister,” said the MKs, adding, “The members of the gay community and gave their lives for their country, and their families should be recognized by law as is any other family in the country, in their lives as well as after their deaths.”
