After hundreds of women reported being sexually harassed over New Year's in the German city of Cologne, the first trial connected to the incidents is beginning.

The defendant, a 26-year-old man from Algeria, is accused of attempted sexual assault and theft. Prosecutors claim that he and nine other men surrounded and assaulted a woman by the city's main railway station. He also allegedly stole the victim's phone.

Nine people have already been theft over the night's incidents, but this is the first sexual assault case.
