The Gulf Arab coalition killed 30 militants in its air strikes on Yemen today (Sunday), Reuters reports.

Over the past year, al-Qaeda has spread around southern Yemen and tried to create their own state, based around the city of Mukalla.

The United Arab Emirates is leading the coalition, which is working with local recruits. "The liberation of Mukalla from the hands of the Al Qaeda terrorist organization has begun," said a local governor.

There is no information on civilian casualties or on measures taken to avoid harming non-combatants.
