Turkish police have arrested a Dutch journalist, shortly after she criticized President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's stifling of dissenters, Reuters reports.

Ebru Umar, who is ethnically Turkish, was detained while on vacation in Turkey. Earlier today (Sunday) she posted a tweet that she has been released, but is not permitted to leave the country.

Last week, Umar used her column to call Erdogan a "dictator" and to oppose a Turkish diplomat in the Netherlands who asked all local Turks to report anyone who insult Erdogan.
