Mitsubishi Motors Corp conducted an internal probe and found that its workers tampered with the emissions test results on several models, Associated Press reports.
The Japanese company says that the false data was reported on 157,000 light passenger cars and 468,000 vehicles made by its subsidiary Nissan Motor Co.
Mitsubishi President Tetsuro Aikawa reported the findings to the Ministry of Transportation.
