MK Yoel Hasson responded to news that journalist Moav Vardi was attacked on Tuesday night at the Kikar Rabin (Rabin Square) rally in support of IDF soldier Elor Azariya.

“A Channel 10 journalist was attacked again this evening, during an extreme rightwing protest at Kikar Rabin. To my dismay, the Likud government rejected my proposal to increase penalization of those who attack journalists. Tonight we witnessed how the government is powerless and does not want to take control over the excited public dialogue, expressed via severe violence against members of the press.”

“I would have expected that the government defend members of the press, but maybe we should start by avoiding lending support to extreme rallies on behalf of soldiers who violate the sanctity of weapons,” the MK claimed.
