In an effort to improve Greece's economy, a number of stores will offer discounts to tourists from Israel, the US, Russia and Turkey.

Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Mardas and the Hellenic Federation of Commerce and Enterprise say that the reductions will reach as high as 20 percent and will be in addition to other tax benefits for tourists. The discounts will be optional and each store can choose whether or not to lower its prices.

It will also not apply during major sale periods, including early May and late July through August.
