MK Yitzhak Herzog responded to findings on the state of Holocaust survivors in Israel and said “Minister Haim Katz revealed an embarrassing reality regarding Holocaust survivors. A disgrace. This embarrassment belongs to us all and is an even greater embarrassment to this government. A government under which hundreds of thousands of people who survived horrific atrocities, rebuilt their lives her and are not denigrated, starving, and forced to beg for handouts.”
According to Herzog, “Minister Katz revealed a systemic failure that must be rectified without delay. Without waiting until after Passover or Holocaust Memorial Day. Instead, to declare a state of emergency and invest all necessary efforts and solve the problem, so that Holocaust survivors can be given what is justly theirs, without any further delays.”
