Dan Harel, the director of the Defense Ministry and a former IDF general, has announced his resignation, Haaretz reports. He has not given a specific date for concluding his role, but instead agreed to remain until a replacement is found.
Harel has headed the Ministry for the past two and a half years. Before that, he served as Israel's military attaché to the US and was the army's deputy chief of staff. In 2005, he was in charge of the IDF's southern command and oversaw the disengagement from Gaza.
He has not given a reason for prematurely leaving the Defense Ministry.
