A memorial ceremony in honor of former IDF Chief of Staff Dan Shomron will be held tomorrow (Friday) at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
Shomron fought in the 1956 Operation Kadesh and received a Medal of Distinguished Service for being the first Israeli soldier to reach the Suez Canal in the Six-Day War. As the commander of the Infantry and Paratroopers Branch he helped plan an execute the 1976 raid on Entebbe.
Later, he was in charge of evacuating Israeli holdings in the Sinai Peninsula following the 1978 peace agreement with Egypt.
Shomron passed away eight years ago from a brain aneurysm.
