Report: US intercepted 2010 conversation between Bibi, Italian PM

The US National Security Agency intercepted a conversation between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and then-Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, in which Netanyahu asked for Italy's help in reducing the tension between Israel and the US, Haaretz reports.

According to the information, which is based on documents released through Wikileaks, the conversation took place on March 13, 2010. Netanyahu told Berlusconi that he needs the latter's help because he has no direct connection to US President Barack Obama.

The Wikileaks document is a condensed version of the conversation that was passed around by the NSA. The intercept occurred, not by listening to the Israeli line, but rather as a result of the US's overseeing the telephones used by Berlusconi's office and his political advisers.
