Pope Francis spoke out against corruption and drug trafficking in Mexico yesterday (Saturday). In particular, he called on the government and the bishops to work take stronger stances against crime.
A number of senior politicians, including the Prime Minister and his wife, as well as the Finance Minister have been accused of corruption with regard to the manner in which they purchased their homes.
Mexican drug gangs have killed over 100,000 people over the past 10 years and are believed to be behind more than 25,000 cases of missing persons.
