An early investigation into the accident near the Maccabim checkpoint this evening (Wednesday) has found that an Israeli vehicle, traveling from Modi'in to Jerusalem, struck a Palestinian pedestrian who was crossing the street near the checkpoint.
The victim was severely wounded.
Authorities say that the pedestrian crossed the main street in a dark area that did not have a crosswalk. Police noted that there is a pedestrian bridge nearby that he did not use.
The driver was detained at the scene of the accident.
