UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said during a Security Council meeting that “The ‘Palestinian’ frustration is increasing under the weight of the ‘occupation’ and under the silenced peace process. Human nature is to respond to the ‘occupation,’ which at times serves as an incubator; for hatred and for extremism.”

“Israel’s security measures will not stop the insurgency and will not alter the sense of alienation and despair that motivates the ‘Palestinians.’ In the ‘occupied West Bank’ they are denied the right to live with honor. A change of Israeli policies is needed. Israel must freeze construction in the ‘settlements,’ which raise serious questions regarding its commitment to a two-state solution.”
