The Knesset Assembly has approved the appointment of Shas head Aryeh Deri to be the new Interior Minister, in addition to his current role of Minister for the Periphery.
During the discussion over the appointment, MK Ahmed Tibi (Joint List) said: "Although we are against this government in everything it does, regarding this vote we will not oppose but rather abstain. Some of us have experience working with Deri on our issues, and found him to be empathetic and attentive, though the minister must take action. We expect to work with him to improve the Arab community despite our disagreements."
