The European Union's foreign secretary, Federica Mogherini, is warning Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif that the bad blood arising between his country and Saudi Arabia could ruin a potential solution to the Syrian civil war.
Mogherini says that she spoke with Zarif on the phone after Iranian citizens stormed Saudi Arabia's facilities in the Islamic Republic. The riots were in response to Saudi Arabia executing a prominent Shi'ite cleric.
According to Mogherini, Zarif agreed that all sides should work hard to prevent further flare-ups.
