Russian President Vladimir Putin has released a New Year's message for his US counterpart, Barack Obama.
According to the Kremlin, Putin told Obama that "relations between Russia and the United States are crucial to ensuring global security." He added that the two countries must "successfully take on new challenges and threats" in order to hold "constructive dialogue."
Tension has been growing between the two powers over Russia's actions in Ukraine and their clashing stances on Syria.
