The Knesset's Labor and Welfare Committee has given its final approval to MK Ya'akov Margi's (Shas) bill calling for sanctions on those who incite against doctors or social workers.
According to the bill, publishing harmful messages that are likely to lead to acts of physical violence against medical or social workers will first be met with a warning. Further acts will lead to a ban from the treatment institution for up to six months, unless the offender requires mandatory treatment.
This is in addition to the existing law that permits such a ban should there be physical or verbal violence against a caregiver and allows up to five years in prison for incitement to violence.
